Tavush is a province in northeastern Armenia. Its administrative center is Ijevan.1

Goshavank, in the village of Gosh, was begun in 1188 by Mkhitar Gosh and was made a school for systematic learning, not only a place of prayer. Its main church, the Holy Mother of God, was finished in 1196 and 1197. Mkhitar Gosh wrote his Book of Laws there and is buried in its gavit, or entrance hall. The monastery was raided by the Mongols in 1241.2

Haghartsin stands in the forest about nine kilometers northeast of Dilijan. The complex dates from the tenth to the thirteenth century. Its oldest building is the gavit of Saint Gregory, from the tenth or eleventh century, and its largest is the main church of the Holy Mother of God, from the thirteenth.3
